SCAN FOR DIRECTION
The Confederation of Lawyers of Asia Pacific (COLAP) will hold the COLAP Conference on August 29-31, 2024 at the University of the Sacred Heart, Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, Japan. This conference is held based on the COLAP constitution. Asia and Pacific lawyers will gather to discuss and exchange developments with our activities.
COLAP was founded on June 18, 2016 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Confederation’s mandate is to promote peace and lawyering for people, and to uphold human rights and the right of people to self-determination.
The Conference’s main theme is “Peace, Human Rights, and the Role of Law in the Asia Pacific”. The genocidal attack against Gaza and the prolonged Ukraine war have not been solved. In Asia, recent military tension in East Asia has enhanced. We need to strengthen international solidarity and regional perspective. We also deal with human rights violations such as attacks on lawyers, crackdown against people under the name of security and terrorism, and climate change and environmental destruction by our solidarity and international law.
